Bio for Mike Sommerfeld
I was born and raised in the Chippewa Valley. I moved back to the Valley after serving in the U.S. Air Force and attending two different Bible Schools. I was brought up in a traditional mainline Church. It wasn't until I was in my early teens that I was exposed to the truth of the Gospel. While I was in the service, stationed at Grand Forks, ND, I trusted Christ as my personal Savior during a missions conference. I was baptized by immersion a short time later.
In 1973, while still in the Air Force, I married my sweetheart. We have two grown children.
Since my conversion to Christ I have been an interim Pastor, principal and teacher at the Chippewa Christian School, youth pastor and CE director. We started attending Calvary in 1983. I have been involved with youth work, VBS and Christian Education. In the past I have been a Trustee and Deacon. Presently I am a teacher in the Children’s Ministry called Adventure Mountain, an AWANA leader and serve as an Elder.
Two of my favorite Bible passages are:
John 1:1-3 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
Philippians 4:8,9 - Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
