Dick and Robin Hart:
Serving in Jordan
Briefly describe your ministry:
Dick is an intercultural community educator. His main focus is to direct an accredited international extension theological college called the Program for Theological Educations by Extension (PTEE). The PTEE has classes that are led by local facilitators in churches in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Palestine, Sudan and Sweden. About 240 students are currently enrolled with the PTEE. Our students are adults, mostly those who are in their early 30’s. Robin is the assistant principal of Whitman Academy, a school primarily for the children of foreign Christian families working in Jordan. The school has 120 children in grades 1-12. Whitman Academy is looking for American teachers with certification to come and help teach.
What will be some of your upcoming challenges?
Robin and I participate in the Steering Committee of the Whitman Academy. More and more missionary children want to register at the school. Unfortunately the space at the school is not enough for all the kids who want to attend. We need a larger facility for classes starting in August 2009. We would like to buy a school that is for sale but to do so we will need to discover people who might be willing to give us ten million dollars to buy the school and pay the building tax. This is more money than we have ever needed to raise. Pray that the Lord would lead us to individual donors who will make small and large gifts.
What do you enjoy about living in Jordan (that you would miss if you lived in the states)?
We are glad that the winters are not too cold here in Jordan
How and when did you first connect to Calvary?
We first visited Calvary in about September 1978. We were invited to speak at the church while raising support.
Anything else you would like to share?
We are writing a course on peacemaking for our college level Program for Theological Education by Extension (PTEE). We are 6 months into the project. We have 8 more months to go. Pray that the funding will come in order for us to keep our writer working on the course. The funding covers the cost of the workers in the PTEE Ministry Center. Our expenses including rent, communications, office and salaries is about $10,000 per month. We need $80,000 to finish the project.
